Day 1: Arrival to Marrakech
Welcome to Marrakech: a former imperial city in wonderful western Morocco. Marrakech is a major economic center and home to historic mosques, decorated palaces, and exotic gardens. The Medina is a densely packed, walled medieval city dating back to the Berber Empire. It is comprised of maze-like alleys with thriving souks (marketplaces) that sell traditional textiles, pottery, spices, carpets, and jewelry. Food vendors line Djemaa el-Fna, a broad square where storytellers and musicians magically perform. Upon arrival, you will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your Riad in the heart of the Medina. You will spend the balance of the afternoon exploring the charm that Marrakech has to offer.
Day 2: Marrakech – Imlil (Day hiking Atlas Mountains)
You will begin your day with a traditional Moroccan breakfast. Once finished, you will then meet our very experienced guide and his team. Together, we will make our way to the High Atlas Mountains by 4X4 vehicles. We have planned a half-day hike through traditional Berber villages to begin our journey. During our hike, we will have an opportunity to have traditional mint tea with local villagers and nomads as we fully experience their way of life.
Day 3: Imlil – Tachedirt – Asni – Ouirgane (38KM)
After breakfast, we have a day of riding through small towns and villages in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. We ride to the town of Asni via Tizi Tamatert Pass to Tacherdirt villages then to the Imenan Valley. We will enjoy a scenic view of the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains during our ride. Our final destination will be Ouirgane where we will be staying in a local guest house.
Day 4: Ouirgane– Tizi Ouzla – Amizmiz (42KM)
After breakfast, we will bike through the olive groves to Tizi Ouzla and make our way to the Amezmiz valley. We arrive from the top of the mountain passing through many villages and riding smoothly flowing single tracks that go through fields and dry hills. This day will take us to Ait Zitoune village where we can enjoy a nice Hammam after a long and scenic day of riding.
Day 5: Amizmiz Valley (30KM)
Today we have an adventurous day riding through the quaint Berber villages of Amizmiz, exploring the many local sites, people and historic casbahs.
Day 6: Amizmiz Valley – Imouzzar Ida Outanane (35KM)
Today is another robust singletrack day with some challenging morning climbs. From the top of this challenge, we traverse through singletrack trails and descend back via a riverbed on the other side of the valley for another ascent. Once completed here there is a fantastic paved road that descends down as your reward before lunch. After lunch, we transfer to Imouzzar Ida Outanane via support vehicle where we will spend the night.
Day 7: Imouzzar – Atlantic Coast Imessouane (50KM)
This will be an epic day of riding as we cycle a quiet road from the mountains to the sea biking through stunning contrasting landscapes. We ride by some unexpected waterfalls and wind down the road along the superb Targant Valley; a first good climb will take us to some high plateaus where local Berbers stand guard over their herd of goats and camels that are grazing peacefully in the picturesque countryside. As we ride west, the smell of the sea announces our imminent approach of the Atlantic Coast. We victoriously reach Imessouane where our memorable bike adventure ends for the day with a swim in the Atlantic. Overnight at Imessaoune.
Day 8: Coastline Ride – Sidi Kaouki – Essaouira (50KM)
Our day begins with a superb morning ride along the Atlantic coast before we head inland. Our sites will include witnessing the majestic mountains, valleys, and villages with enormous houses that sit like thrones on top of the mountain flanks, as well as terraced-fields with blossoming almond trees. Our amazing day of riding ends at Sidi Kaouki today, another good occasion for a swim and a rewarding picnic lunch. Our support vehicle will shuttle us for a short drive to Essaouira: famous for its artisan shops, European feel, and several kilometers of sandy beaches. We’ll join a local historian exploring the Medina here, where the maze of tiny streets reveals spice markets, marquetry workshops, ancient Hammams and more. We will stay at the beautiful Riad, located in the heart of the medina.
Day 9: Essaouira – Marrakech
After breakfast, there may be an opportunity for an early morning camel ride along the beach before departing to Marrakech. Afterward, we’ll visit El Bahia Palace; as dusk sets on the extraordinary Jemaa El Fna, we’ll watch as snake charmers, acrobats and street performers of every kind imaginable entertain. We’ll stay at a wonderful Riad near the historical neighborhood in the Medina for our final night. The distance between Essaouira and Marrakech is 170 km.
Day 10: Marrakech – Airport
According to your flight times, you will be transferred to the airport by your guide, who will also assist you with the paperwork formalities before you board your departing flight. Once you have boarded your plane you can close your eyes and savor the sweet memories of Morocco!
